Awards at the Christmas coffee 2020
In accordance with the Award and incentive pyramid for high-quality teaching at Hanken, Hanken awards every year teachers for innovative developing of teaching.
This year, the following persons are awarded:
1) Niclas Meyer
Niclas has successfully been responsible for the development of the
Hanken MOOC Principles of Wealth Management, which has received a lot of
positive attention and visibility for Hanken. Together with Niclas both
Jan Antell and Mikaela Krohn from the team responsible for the MOOC
deserve a mention.
Niclas has also shouldered a great teaching responsibility within
courses in statistics and finance. The final exam for the large-scale
course statistical analysis was the first exam that was converted into a
Moodle-exam after the Covid-19 restrictions were introduced. Despite
such short notice and uncertainty, the arrangements succeeded well.
2) Markus Wartiovaara och Mikaela Krohn
Markus and Mikaela have successfully developed an all new module on venture capital funds and companies for the course on Entrepreneurial Leadership. The students were analysing and developing a growth strategy for one of the portfolio companies in a VC-fund. The course achieved this year its highest ever student feedback.
Mikaela is also awarded for her development work on the courses Nordic Business Culture, Nordic Organizations in a Contemporary Business World and “Företagsledning och entreprenörskap”. Students have appreciated the flexibility that the different teaching solutions have enabled.
3) Benjamin Maury
Benjamin has successfully developed Hanken Quantum Hack 2020 as a part of his course Strategic Growth Investing. Hanken Quantum Hack was a creative, engaging and intense online learning experience in real-time following a modern concept of collaboration through hackathons and attracted over 40 students from different subjects such as finance, entrepreneurship and accounting.
4) Mansoor Afzali
Mansoor has developed a set of own case studies for the course Financial Accounting for Decision Makers, which enable non-specialist students to contextualize problems and use accounting information to evaluate their decisions as managers. Despite the large number of students and the challenges of combining case-teaching with large groups, the course was a success and the student feedback was outstanding.
5) Marina Bergström och Sofia Stolt
Together, Marina and Sofia have developed the Swedish courses in academic writing, “Vetenskapligt skrivande” and “Vetenskaplig kommunikation”, for students writing their bachelor’s or master’s thesis. The use of flexible and creative teaching methods as well as the possibility to participate in the course independent of campus have been appreciated by the students, and the number of sign-ups to the course has seen a significant increase. The teacher’s collaboration has also resulted in a project where a digital guidebook on academic writing is being developed.
6) Gauthier Duche
Gauthier has created a pool of new self-study modules Français 1, 2 and 3 complementary to the basic blended/online French courses. The possibility to choose the day and time to study was very convenient for the students and the course content and activities were helpful enough for self-studies. The independence of place and time has also opened a new way of studying more languages at the same time. The students have been very satisfied with these modules and the drop-out rate has been significantly lower than in other courses.
7) Marit Nilsson-Väre, Peter Björk och Marina Bergström
Marit has, together with Peter and Marina, developed the study module focusing on collaboration over the borders in the Kvarken region, “Gränsöverskridande regional utveckling och planering i Kvarkenregionen”, which is a unique study module of 15 credits providing students with special knowledge of operations across borders. The study module includes elements of experiential studies that provide wide-ranged general knowledge and global competence. The module has attracted media attention both locally and nationally and has initiated research within the course and established contacts between teachers, researchers and students across borders.
Awarding of administrative personnel:
Motivation:
These teams and individuals have worked during the year under unexpected circumstances that have required new, innovative ways of solving problems to be found within a very tight time pressure. Many questions have been completely new, ones that one has not been able to expect in advance.
